Mili Vakharia is an assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology at Texas Children’s Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine. She has been a practicing nurse practitioner for over ten years. For TNP, she serves as secretary for the education committee and legislative ambassador for the Fort Bend district. She is a former president of the Houston NAPNAP chapter in 2019 and currently serves as a nominations committee member. Currently, she is also a co-lead for the hospital’s diabetes education quality improvement team that focuses on improving the use of diabetes technology and cardiovascular screenings, reducing healthcare disparities / implicit biases, and enhancing education.

Mili is truly the definition of excellence as a professional and educator in all regards. Her passion for clinical practice, mentorship, and leadership is inspiring, and she empowers students to do the same as a role model.  Mili’s love for learning goes far beyond the classroom. She has been a preceptor for more than six years and as a preceptor, has precepted more than 300 hours within the last five years.

A former preceptor noted, “Mili educated me about the patient and always made sure I understood the plan. She showed me several educational websites for diabetes and was explained to me the different types of insulin pumps and glucose monitors that are available on the market. Outside of talking about diabetes, Mili helped me understand the role of a successful nurse practitioner regarding research, networking, and becoming a part of professional organizations. This type of experience is one that I will never forget because Mili truly made me feel valued as a student.”
