2024 COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD
CATHERINE LUX
Dr. Lux has been a pediatric nurse practitioner for 3 decades, serving in a clinic founded by Parkland nursery NPs in 1995, in response to a dearth of pediatricians in South Dallas. She received her DNP and MSN from UTA, where she subsequently served as an associate clinical professor. Prior to her NP role, she was a PICU nurse for several years, after receiving her BSN and also a BA from Johns Hopkins.
A passionate supporter of APRNs in leadership, she has obtained her MBA at UT Dallas. As Manager of Advanced Practice for primary care APPs, she has overseen a doubling of the APP service line and facilitated their transition to PCPs, which greatly expanded access to care for underserved patients in Dallas. She aligns with the Healthy People 2030 priorities of eliminating health disparities and promoting health equity for the underserved youth population of Dallas County. She recognizes that Socioeconomic factors influence health outcomes, and she works with community partners, such as Medicaid, to increase access to medications, programs, and assistance to improve the quality of their lives. In addition, she is fluent in Spanish which has helped her to communicate more effectively with Spanish speaking clients in her practice.
Dr. Lux is also very involved in her community as she hosts and sponsors a high school Robotics team at her home for the Dallas Independent School District. They have made it to the state competition. She travels with the team and serves as a chaperone. In the past she was a PTA member and assisted with activities for the PTA. She was NP Volunteer of the Year, North Texas Nurse Practitioners, in 2017.
