Lauren Meadows is a student in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program (PMHNP) at The University of Texas at Austin. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing in the Leadership in Diverse Settings from the University of Texas at Austin in December 2023. Lauren has worked as a registered nurse for 2 years, and is currently employed at Shoal Creek Hospital, an inpatient psychiatric hospital in Austin, Texas.

Lauren is interested in research and teaching, and therefore plans to pursue a PhD in nursing upon completion of the PMHNP program. Lauren’s research so far has primarily focused on stigma and improving access to treatment for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD). Lauren has published a literature review in the Journal of Psychosocial Nursing and presented at three professional organization conferences. She will be presenting a poster presentation at the 2024 Texas Nurse Practitioner’s conference on her study that examined PMHNP students’ and alumni attitudes toward individuals with OUD and using medications for OUD.

Lauren is also interested in perinatal psychiatry and has completed training programs from Postpartum Support International and the National Curriculum in Reproductive Psychiatry.
