TRAILBLAZER

Cheryl is a 20-year practice owner serving families in Midland, TX.

Cheryl Vallie, a certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C), has led her Midland-based practice for 20 years. In February, I had the chance to interview her and quickly learned about the remarkable life she’s led alongside her role as an FNP.

Before her career as an FNP, Cheryl worked in various hospital settings, including nursing administration, which she found was “not my jam.” She enrolled at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1992 and earned her FNP degree in 1994. Cheryl’s practice serves adults of all ages, children 12 and older, and she offers adolescent medicine and sports physicals. Moreover, she mentors students from Texas A&M, UT-Arlington, and Texas Tech.

Her clinic is supported by five employees, including another part-time nurse practitioner, medical assistants, reception staff, and an office manager. She anticipates adding another part-time nurse practitioner to her team soon.

Having been a TNP member since the early ’90s, Cheryl finds immense satisfaction in seeing the children she’s treated grow up and return to Midland, enjoying the continuity of caring for entire families. She feels blessed by her life’s work.

An adventurous soul, Cheryl is also a master scuba diver who dreams of one day dedicating her time to turtles and dolphins instead of patient care. Married with two adult children and three grandsons, she is considering retirement options and the transition of her clinic to another nurse practitioner.

“My career has given me confidence and ability to provide the best balance of nursing and healthcare to the Odessa area. I couldn’t ask for a better platform to serve the community and fulfill my destiny. This is God’s purpose for my life.”
