Nkiru G Ogbuke, BSN, RN, MedSurg-BC, is a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) student in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program at Baylor University’s Louise Herrington School of Nursing. She is a registered nurse with experience in medical-surgical nursing, inpatient psychiatric care, and outpatient behavioral health.
Her passion for mental health was shaped by her background and caring for patients across diverse clinical settings, where she recognized that healing extends beyond treating physical illness. These experiences deepened her understanding of the complex relationship between physical and mental health and reinforced the importance of seeing each person as a whole. She is committed to reducing mental health disparities, improving access to quality behavioral healthcare, and helping break the stigma surrounding mental illness through compassionate, evidence-based care.
Nkiru believes that caring for others begins with understanding their stories and recognizing that every individual deserves to be treated with dignity, empathy, and respect. She is passionate about promoting holistic well-being, advocating for vulnerable populations, and empowering patients to achieve meaningful, lasting improvements in their mental health. Through clinical practice, leadership, and service, she hopes to make mental healthcare more accessible, equitable, and person-centered for the communities she serves.
