THORNELL LEWIS
LCDR Thornell D. Lewis, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, is a Dual Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner and Active-Duty United States Public Health Service Officer currently serving as a Nurse Consultant III for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). LCDR Lewis holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Midwestern University, having previously earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at El Paso and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University. With an extensive background that fuses federal healthcare compliance and emergency response leadership with advanced primary and psychiatric clinical care, LCDR Lewis has directed multi-million-dollar public health programs and enforced regulatory standards to safeguard vulnerable populations in Texas. Alongside her federal oversight role, LCDR Lewis maintains an active clinical practice providing psychiatric mental health evaluations and medication management to vulnerable and underserved patients in Texas. Beyond her federal service, she demonstrates a sustained, hands-on commitment to community health through leadership in a community-based medical ministry in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. LCDR Lewis’ exceptional regulatory oversight and emergency response contributions have earned her numerous prestigious honors, including the USPHS Outstanding Service Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, and multiple CMS Honor Awards. Additionally, in 2026, she was named to both the Outstanding 25 Nurses of Texas and the DFW Great 100 Nurses.
