What role does TNP play in advocating for Nurse Practitioners?

TNP is the premier advocate for nurse practitioners in Texas, working to advance policy priorities to improve access to quality, accessible, cost-effective healthcare for all Texans and remove barriers to nurse practitioners. Our current issues include:

  • Expanding Access to Healthcare and allowing full and direct access to Texas Nurse Practitioners.
  • Ensuring adequate prescriptive authority for Texas Nurse Practitioners in hospitals, long-term care, and mental health settings.
  • Addressing the workforce pipeline by supporting graduate nursing education funding.
  • Eliminating signature barriers for patient paperwork.

We keep our members current on legislative activities and new rules and regulations impacting their practice and patients.

TNP’s Political Action Committee helps elect and keep state public officials and candidates in office, without regard to party affiliation, who support legislative priorities that promote improving patient access to quality health care and nurse practitioners as health care providers. In addition, the TNP PAC helps promote political education and participation in the political process among members of the nurse practitioner profession.

TNP also participates in the Texans for Healthcare Access Coalition, composed of 35 organizations that have joined forces to simplify Texas patient healthcare and improve access to healthcare by removing unnecessary barriers.

We encourage TNP members to get involved in our outstanding statewide grassroots network of Legislative Ambassadors that involves NPs from every career stage – from students to those who have been practicing for decades.
