The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) recently published proposed policy changes to Texas Medicaid Medical and Dental Policies. One of the changes included in this proposal authorizes NPs to order home telemonitoring services – a change stemming from TNP’s efforts a couple years ago to allow NPs to order home health and durable medical equipment for Medicaid patients.
The new draft policy reads:
“A nurse practitioner (NP), clinical nurse specialist (CNS) or physician assistant (PA) is considered a requesting provider and may request home telemonitoring services and sign prior authorization forms.”
TNP thanks HHSC for making this important policy change to increase access to care for Texas patients. We will continue to monitor the policy as it moves through the review process.
