On April 18, TNP hosted our first-ever campaign school primer in partnership with Healing Politics – a non-partisan organization dedicated to recruiting and training nurses to run for elected office up and down the ballot while building a culture of civic engagement within the professions.

Throughout the day, attendees learned the nuts and bolts of building a campaign team and kitchen cabinet, fundraising, and working with the media. The event concluded with a panel of nurse elected officials, including State Representative Donna Howard, City Council Member Erin Pérez, and Mayor Pro Tempore of Windcrest Cindy Strzelecki.

We need more nurses at every level of elected office to impact systems-level change for patients. We cannot wait to see the next chapter of these nurse leaders’ stories as they take the leap from advocate to policymaker, shaping the health of their communities and Texas.
